Just Do It.

Trying to get my creative juices flowing today. Moving to Ottawa seemed to take a bit out of me and I feel like I am just starting to rebound where creativity is concerned. I am still quite homesick, and waver between trying to make the best of it and throwing my hands up in the air, having decided I'm just leaving. Today I am making the best of it. My hours at work have been drastically reduced so it's not like I don't have the time to get back to some of the hobbies that used to give me great pleasure. (As an aside, how do people live on one income these days?! Life is so expensive!) I used to make soy candles and had decided after moving that I was bored of it, that I don't want to try and build a clientèle back up again, there are already so many people doing it here, etc etc. Well, those are pretty lame excuses and today I am going to get back on the horse. I already have a few made that just need labels and then to be photographed and put up on Etsy. That's about as easy as it can get, I don't have to even leave the apartment! The marketing side of things is where I fall a bit flat - I love the creation and design but being a business woman and self promoting really doesn't come naturally to me. I think a Pinterest board is in order: How To Self-Promote Without Coming Across As A Pain In The Ass. So that will happen today too.

The next thing on my creative list is honey. A few summers ago I made THE most delicious infused honey - lavender, vanilla, mint and vanilla, hibiscus, rosemary. It was amazing. And that really is the easiest and probably best thing I can do in the kitchen, so I'll make some more. Then I need to get my embroidery out and crack out a few hoops. I used to love to put a show on Netflix and binge watch while I stitched. So I do have things to keep me occupied up here in Ottawa (aside from never-ending job hunting) I just need to get myself motivated!

I am already dreaming of late summer - or early fall. Most of us are never really satisfied with the season we are in, especially Canadians. This summer has been mild, aside from the 43 degree heatwave that passed through this weekend, but that mildness has me thinking of late August. When things are leaning more towards fall, kids are getting ready for back to school, the sun is a little weaker. There are still flowers and hot days and night time thunderstorms but it feels like fall is creeping closer. There is still a lot of summer left, it's only mid-July and I have plenty of summer adventures left to accomplish. But like everyone else, I'm always anticipating fall.

Music on my mind today, some old some new:

01. Brothers Osborne - Stay A Little Longer
02. Justin Vernon - Ring Out
03. Gregory Alan Isakov - Idaho
04. Norah Jones - The Long Day Is Over
05. Tim McGraw - Shotgun Rider
